Drains and Fruit Flies in Birmingham, AL: Some Tips to Get Rid of Them

It’s that time of year when the flies are out in force. Not only do you have to worry about regular flies getting in your home, but you also have to deal with fruit flies. These can be even more of a problem because they are so small and can congregate in large numbers.

If you’re wondering how fruit flies got in your house, there are many different ways it could occur. They may have come in with the fruit you bought at the store, in a plant you brought home or even crawled through your screens. No matter how they got there, you are probably looking to get rid of them.

One of the main places that fruit flies like to gather is your drains. This is an ideal place because it offers them food, shelter, and a place to raise their young. If you’re looking for a way to get them out of your drains, follow some of the tips listed below.

Keep Your Drains Clear

Since fruit flies are attracted to a free meal, you’ll want to keep your drains clear. This means rinsing down any food particles that get thrown into the sink as soon as possible. Run your disposal often to ensure that there aren’t any particles that will attract the flies.

Wash Your Fruit

As soon as you bring fruit home from the store, wash it to remove any larva that may be present on the surface. This can help reduce the number of fruit flies that you may find in your drains.

Fruit flies can be challenging to get rid of once they are in your home. Since they like to congregate in drains because of the darkness and easy access to food, call for plumbing services in Birmingham, AL, to ensure that your drains are clear.
