Tick Control in Westport CT Tips For Home Lawns

Maintaining the exterior of a home can be lots of hard work. During the summer months, a homeowner will need to mow their grass and trim their trees regularly. There are also several other tasks a homeowner will have to perform to keep their yard free of insects and pests.

During the hotter months of the year, the chance for a tick infestation becomes far higher. Therefore using proven Tick Control in Westport CT methods is essential when trying to keep a home free of these dangerous pests. The following are some things a homeowner can do to their lawn to keep ticks at bay.

Keeping the Grass Short is Essential

Most homeowners fail to realize that ticks hate dry and hot environments. So cutting the grass around a home short is such a good idea. When the grass is shorter, it will not provide ticks with the shade they desire.

A homeowner will need to cut their grass to about 3 inches. Letting the grass grow to about 5 inches and then cutting it down promotes healthy growth. The higher a homeowner allows their grass to get, the harder they will find it to avoid problems with ticks.

Create a Physical Barrier With Mulch

Ticks usually look for densely wooded areas to set up shop in. If a home is surrounded by dense woods, then a homeowner will need to create a barrier to keep ticks away. The best way to do this is by using mulch around the wood line.

Not only will this help a homeowner create a natural barrier, but it will also keep ticks in the woods and off of the lawn. The money invested in quality mulch will be worth it considering how effective it can be as a tick control method.
