Vacationing on an Island Off the Coast of Belize Rivals the Caribbean

If you’ve been thinking about a Caribbean vacation, consider booking a trip at one of the friendly Belize island resorts. You’ll be surprised at how much more there is to do on the tropical island of Ambergris Caye.

If you’ve dreamed of snorkeling with brilliant, tropical fish on a Caribbean island, snorkeling in Belize is even better. The Belize Barrier Reef is the country’s top tourist attraction, and for good reason. It’s a little-known fact that the Belize Barrier Reef is second only to Australia’s in size. You’ll have 190 miles of incredible coral reef to explore teeming with 500 species of fish, as well as several atoll islands.

One thing the Caribbean islands do not have is Mayan ruins. The Mayan culture once dominated the Atlantic Coast of Central America and you can still see vestiges of their empire. While there are no ruins on the islands, you can take a tour to the mainland to see the ruins at Lamanai and Xunantunich. If you’re up for an adventure with a hint of danger, you can also swim into the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave. This watery, jungle cave contains the crystalized remains of Mayan sacrificial victims. This tour is not for the faint of heart.

Of course, the beautiful Belize island resorts also have plenty of sunshine and miles of gleaming white sand beaches. If you need to relax and unwind from the stresses of civilization, the luxurious Belize island resorts are the perfect place to do it.
