Those interested in gold electroplating for their application should choose a certified provider offering specifications that meet their needs. There are three common gold plating services – MIL-G-45204, ASTM B488, and AMS 2422. Applying gold deposits according to industry standards for each of these applications is critical but can be complex for an organization that does not have a trained eye for ensuring exacting results.
ASTM B488
In this specification for gold electroplating, there was a significant revision from 1995 to 2001, which revised this specification to mimic that of MIL-G-45204. This means that the type and codes for it are not similar. Briefly, Type 1 is 99.7 percent pure gold with a hardness that ranges from A to C. Type 2 is 99.0 percent pure gold, which has a hardness rating that ranges from B to D. It is often called hard gold. Or Type 3, which is pure gold or, sometimes known as soft gold. It has a hardness rating of just A.
Choosing the Property Specifications
Every situation is different. By working with an organization that specializes in this type of electroplating and offers a variety of solutions, including several code types within each of the three specifications, it is possible to get exactly what you need.
